"Happy Birthday Father! I love you very much even though you are getting up there! (40 years old). I am thankful to have you as my father. Happy Birthday! Love Sheylene"
"I love you so much but even though you are old, I still will always love you. Have a Happy Birthday and hope you have fun with us. P.S. Even though we might have arguments, I love you and you are the #1 Dad in the world! Love Myra"
"Well after a year of teasing from you, you are finally in your 40's. Sifting through the photo albums was very difficult. I was so lucky to have been once loved by you. The things we went through together seem so long ago, but I will never forget all the trials that we went through, and how you were always there to pull me through. I know people don't understand why and how we can be civil to each other just because we are apart but when you both have similar goals of putting your children first, it seems pretty easy to respect you and honor what we set out to do when we began a family. When the kids see me tear up when I look at old photos, they automatically say to me "you still love him" and I tell them the truth. I have always loved you as my friend, as my ex, and as the father of my children, and that I have wonderful memories of us in our youth. You have given me the 3 greatest gifts in my life and I always want to share that with you. Thank you for not giving into the way society thinks that divorce should be. I like the way we have raised our kids and I wouldn't change it for anything. You'll always have a little part of me. Have a great many more birthdays, Melvyn! Your mom would be so proud of the man that you have become. Love Shannon"
